Electrolux EWF01 Replacement Water Filter

Electrolux EWF01 Replacement Water Filter

I have been able to trim my average $224 monthly utility bill to about $125 per month by converting to 100% CF light bulbs, even above bathroom vanities, and in overhead and outdoor spotlighting. I was very happy to see my bill drop by about $25-30 a month on an annual comparison basis. Next, we started unplugging and turning off fans and lights that were not being used and then turning the thermostat up a degree.

I added double layer window treatments as well to keep the heat out. Every improvement had paid for itself and sheer curiosity led to the P3 International Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor.

I plugged the power strip for my home entertainment center into this after plugging in my local utility rate, and then sat by with bated breathe waiting for the initial estimate. Nothing came through. I found out that this needed to run for at least a couple of days before it would come up with a number. Once I got a number I left it plugged in for a month and then checked again. Overall, I was very pleased. We have a 42" HDTV, HD-DVD player, xbox 360, stereo receiver with two speakers, Cable box, CD player, and a Squeezebox Duet system. Annually, the total cost is $54. I felt that was very reasonable, and it was nice to have a number. Next I plan to plug it into a lamp, and since all of our lamps are using the same bulb, I will be able to get a very good estimate of their annual (average) cost of operation as well.

If you're a big numbers person, or are looking to find ways to reduce your energy cost, this could lead you in the right direction, and it's a fun gadget to have.

Cons: screen is not too bright, and if you have it plugged in low behind things, it's hard to get to and read. Solution: buy a power strip liberator.

I think that the power companies should rent and/or loan these out to their customers (with a deposit of course). They're always trying to get people to use less energy, and this could be an affordable eye opener.

KitchenAid 12 Cup Glass Carafe Coffee

KitchenAid 12 Cup Glass Carafe Coffee

I have no idea what all this talk of "wetness" is about. I'm not having that problem. Had this coffee maker for a couple weeks now. Bold setting does take longer than a normal pot of drip coffee, but once you know what to expect, it's not a problem. I set it to brew automatically for my morning cuppa, anyway. For the past couple of years I used a French press exclusively because I like a strong, full-bodied coffee. My last drip coffee maker was a 12-cup Cuisinart with a thermal carafe but the carafe kept leaking so I stopped using it. I'm very pleasantly surprised with how good the coffee tastes from this KitchenAid maker considering I've never been the biggest fan of drip coffee, but enjoy the convenience and the ability to make a larger quantity of coffee more quickly compared to the press pot. I like the sleek design of this coffee maker and find it very easy to use and clean. I highly recommend.

4396547 WSW 1 Refrigerator Replacement Filter Sentinel

I found this to be an awesome product for the money and for even more money it would be worth it. I read terrible reviews about the Chaney thermometers but like the new LG Refrigerator I put this thermometer in they are both great. What customers have to realize however is that the temperature in either a freezer or refrigerator changes as the compressor cycles and as the defrost cycles. The walls where one might stick the suction cups are usually warmer than the interior. The wetted suction cups stuck hard and fast. Using a good calibrated other refrigerator thermometer and putting the Acu-Rite next to it on a shelf the readings were exactly equal. Then putting the Acu-Rite 14 inches away from that other thermometer and on the interior wall about 1/2 way toward the back the temps run from 36 to 43 depending. The main thermometer in the center ofr the refrigerator always maintains an even 34 as it is set for. Freezer set for zero runs from -1 to +6. Again normal operation. I have the readout module magnetically attached to the side of the refrigerator. It is not made to transmit through walls or into another room so if it works for you like that all the better. I like it on the side of the refrigerator.

GE FXWTC SmartWater Whole House Filter

GE FXWTC Household Pre Filtration Chlorine

GE FXWTC Household Pre Filtration Chlorine

Bought three pitchers (1 x 2 liter, 2 x 1 liter). I wanted a square, heavy duty, well designed and functional pitcher that could survive the rigors of living in the fridge. There is nothing chintzy or nonsensical about these puppies. Heavy duty glass, space saving handle and spout which doesn't protrude past the body. No advanced engineering degree necessary to lock the lid either. Just press and turn. Most importantly, the lid stays put when I turn the 2 liter pitcher upside down to give my OJ a vigorous shake before pouring. Square design saves space in the fridge. Spout is a marriage between functionality and necessity. The "stubby" design protects it from getting banged up. Pouring is straight forward and no mystery if you don't make a meal out of it. Just put cup, glass, etc. under! the spout and let'er rip. Overall an excellent fridge pitcher (not much to look at though)that gets the job done.

I'm befuddled by some of the negative/critical reviews. If the pitcher is too heavy when full, get a smaller pitcher or don't fill it all the way. The lid has an O-ring but no groove(s) it can lock into. Hence, you have to push down to get a firm seal when locking. I found the handle design actually more conducive to lifting the pitcher when heavy. In short, this is an excellent pitcher that I would strongly recommend to anyone who is in the market for a quality utility pitcher.

mustard seeds

Frontier Mustard Yellow Certified Organic

Frontier Mustard Yellow Certified Organic

I bought both this mustard seed and the brown mustard seed from Amazon. The price and quality is great, and I have used both to make homemade Dijon mustard. After trying homemade mustard, you will not buy the stuff from the store ever again. It is so incredibly easy to make, and so much better than the processed mustard. The recipe that I used is:
1/2 cup dry white wine
1/2 cup white wine vinegar
1/4 cup brown mustard seeds
1/4 cup yellow mustard seeds
1/2 tsp. kosher salt

Put all ingredients in a glass bowl and cover tightly with plastic wrap. Let sit at room temperature for 2 days.
Transfer mixture to a blender and blend until the desire consistency is reached. (It will not reach a smooth consistency.)
Transfer to a glass container with a tight fitting lid, and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.

This recipe is simple, but make a great Dijon mustard.

The best tasting gf crust I've had

Yeti In The Freezer ebook

Yeti In The Freezer ebook

I've tried a billion pizza crusts on the market and these things are really good for pizza as long as you follow a few important steps when making them.

They are best cooked on a very high heat in your oven and don't really respond well to sitting on a low bake setting for a half hour. You want to flash cook these suckers on one of the lower trays inside the oven. If you cook them too slowly they can dry out.

In addition, these things taste about a thousand times better if you cover the surface in olive oil. Doesn't have to be expensive stuff. Just your basic olive oil. This makes them brown really nicely and also adds a good flavor to the finished crust.

Most of the pizza crust mixes that you have to add ingredients to are rather cardboard tasting. These things aren't and they're even ready-made.

I'd say the only drawback to these yummy things is that they cost a fortune.

Samsung DA29 00003G Aqua Pure Refrigerator Filter

Samsung DA29 00003G Aqua Pure Refrigerator Filter

Samsung HAFCU1/XAA Aqua-Pure Plus Refrigerator Water Filter; lots of confusing numbers in this listing but the item received, as Amazon.com as the seller, is the most recent model, based on research on Samsung's website. (DA29-00003G replaces DA29-00003B)

It's exactly the same as the one I took out of our 6-mo.-old Samsung refrigerator and works the same - good. Good price, but I don't know where the retail price of $55 comes from; Samsung's online price is around $35, plus shipping and maybe sales tax. Overall, good package deal from Amazon.

While replacing, even though you've turned the water supply off to the refrigerator, you'll still get dripping water as you remove the old filter. I put a little pan on the shelf to catch the water and to make sure it's not leaking after installation. I had success on the first try.

Note on resetting the red indicator light: default instructions indicate holding two buttons for three seconds, except one model, which wasn't mine. However, my model is also a one-button reset, but it's more like 4 or 5 seconds. Just hold it down until it turns from red to green when holding it down, then release your finger.

OXO Grips Salad Dressing Shaker

OXO Grips Salad Dressing Shaker

I love this salad shaker! I have always liked making my own dressings, but many of the cruets have such a narrow opening at the top that it's hard to clean. This one has a very pretty narrow opening at the top, but it unscrews in the middle making it easy to brush out. Since you can reach the narrow opening from both sides, it's also easy to keep clean. It has nice measurement markings on the side which speed things up. The top that flips open with your thumb is pretty and gives it some style. It also has a good feel to it, which I've come to expect with OXO products. We are currently doing the South Beach diet and make dressings nearly every day. So having one that is pretty, easy to mix in, and especially easy to clean is very important. This one fits all those needs perfectly.

Why haven't I seen these before?

Lock Pitcher 8 5 cup

Lock Pitcher 8 5 cup

I have both the 8.5 cup (2 liter) and the and the 1 gallon version of these pitchers and I am very pleased with them both. The first thing I noticed when I got them was the hiss I heard when I first popped the top on them. That would mean that they are air tight, though that is not really a concern of mine. I just don't want the thing leaking on me. I was not disappointed. The top of the container snaps into place easily and is held firmly in place with latches on both sides. The pour spout cap, while easy to open and close, fits firmly into place when closed. OK, so after having been disappointed with many pitchers in the past, I was optimistic with my initial assessment of these new pitchers, but I was still a little wary of trusting any pitcher....so I decided to test it further.

I filled the 2 liter pitcher up with water and sealed the cap. I then held it over the sink and turned it completely upside down. I expected there to at least be some leaking around the edge of the lid, and fully expected the cap to be forced open under the stress, but there was not even a hint of a leak. I was impressed. Granted, you aren't going turn your pitchers upside down on a regular basis, but I have had pitchers that leaked just from simply tilting it when taking it out of the refrigerator, or when pouring. It's nice to know that the seal is secure and I won't have any major spillage if I accidentally knock it over. Since then I have felt confident enough to actually use it to shake up drinks that settle. I have to admit that I suspected that over time the cap on the pour spout would loosen and not be as secure, however, I just tried that experiment again a few minutes ago and it is still holding firm over 6 months later.

The smaller 8.5 cup (2 Liter) pitcher is a nice compact size that is easy to handle. The 1 gallon size is obviously larger and heavier. I highly recommend these pitchers.

I recalled growing up as a little kid with this large barf-green machine that made juice and also amazing frozen fruit sorbets. I was quite excited as an adult to discover that they still make this thing, and it is, as far as I know, the only juice made in the usa! (Luckily they don't make the barf-green color anymore) I excitedly purchased it and have never looked back. I compared the comparable Omega juicer, and found this seemed to be the best bang for my buck. The machine is built to last a lifetime (it was in our household as a kid for well over a decade before it was finally given away) and it does an amazing job at juicing. There are some reviewers who have complained about warm juice, but I have never found this to be a problem, even when I am making a juice that happens to use some fruits that were kept at room temperature, as long as the majority of the fruit/veggies was in the fridge, it's quite cold coming out of the juicer.

The juicing works fantastic with different filters to allow the pass-through of different degrees of pulp (none or some). The sorbet still works as great as I recalled as a kid. Pop in a few frozen bananas, blueberries, strawberries, and top with a little extra sugar (or stevia), and you have a delicious and healthy sorbet made, literally, from only fruit - something you can actually feel good about binging on. The texture and the taste is fantastic.

I highly, highly, recommend this juicer.

I was so happy to see Amazon carrying these filters. Beats $85.00 for one filter from Sears!

Here are the filter part numbers that this Whirlpool filter replaces. You'll find the number ON your old Sears filter so you'll need to pop yours out. I found about 3 separate part numbers on my Sears filter so look carefully!

9020, 9030, 46-9020, 46-9030, 469020, 469030, T1RFWB2, T1WB2, T1WB2L, T1RFKB1, T1KB1, 2260538, T1KB2, T1RFKB2, Kenmore Pur 2260515, 2260538. The Whirlpool 4396710 will also replace part number W10121145. (these numbers were found through searching on Google)

Also I noted that Amazon has 3 different part numbers for this Whirlpool filter: 4396710, 4396710P, 4396710T / I believe these filter numbers are all the same, it just signifies the quantity in the pack. 1 filter, 2 filters, 3 filters respectively.

This filter appears to be the EXACT same filter that Sears sells, it just doesn't say Sears, it says Whirlpool.
